Banderas Bay

We're just a few miles from the mainland. On the Baja side it was blowing 25-30 knots and continued so for about 24 hours. We made 7.5 knots average boat speed, with many peaks up over 10kn!. Then, as was predicted, the wind gradually shut down until last night around 11 we had to put on the motor. We've been doing a combination of sails and engine off/on ever since. The seas were not so bad this time so no one got sick and the kids were able to play downstairs. Currently they are on the stern, trailing a toy boat behind in the water. We saw a humpback whale breech, and a pod of dolphins came to play in the bow... cool stuff! We plan to be in Banderas Bay until the end of the month. We will see our friends the Muncktons for a week in PV and spend the rest of the time exploring the anchorages around the bay. Most of the boats that we know are in the area, so we are looking forward to socializing as well. We should have e-mail access in the next week, so please send us lots of news. It's quite sad to finally be able to check our account and find it empty. -Kellie

Bellingham has been suffering with snow and freezing conditions over the past week and a half. Last night we had more new snow with freezing rain and our roads are nasty. It will warm up this week and melt though according to the news. Maggie had a snow day from BCS last Friday which was fun. We live on the top of one of the steepest hills in Glenhaven and our fire chief closed the road so all the kids & adults could go sleding. On Thursday my husband wittnessed the garbage truck outside the front window stop to get our trash and as he walked across the street to grab our neigbhors can his truck started sliding down the hill. My husband and the trash man freaked out and scrambled to get into his rig. When it was all done and over the truck had slid about the lenght of a house down our street. The trash man was so jolted that he left the next three cans on the road and went all the way down our hill before picking up anymore. Our neigbhors were'nt thrilled when they returned to find a full can, but better then a yard full of trash if he had'nt caught his truck! We look forward to warmer weather and NO snow. I like to wear shorts.
Sounds like a adventure of a lifetime you are wittnessing. As usual, were jealous.
Take care and think of us as we thaw out.
Tootles,
The Johnsons

Hey Schmidt's!

Was thinking of you all this morning, so I have been skimming your posts for an hour or so. Guess I'll have to stay here at work late, but was worth it. It is exciting to follow along, and read of all the adventures you've had already - and you've really just started! I confess I haven't followed along much since we saw you at your "Open Boat" back in the summer, and reading Kellie's comments here & there on bouts of loneliness have me feeling some serious empathy (and a little guilt). Living your adventures with you in your posts is easy (and fun!), but walking in your shoes through the lonely sailing nights and scary weather is tough and somewhat nerve-wracking. I really appreciate your honesty.

Well, it's back to work. God bless you all, and may Jesus' strength and peace and joy surround you. Have a great rest of the month in Banderas Bay!

Bye for now,
John
